The clever Rabbit and the hungry Lion

Jungle story for kids showing clever rabbit Chiku facing the hungry lion

Once upon a time, deep inside a large green jungle, there lived a fierce lion named Sheru. Sheru was the strongest animal in the forest, and everyone feared him. Every day, he hunted many animals for food, even when he was not very hungry.
The animals of the jungle became scared and worried. Deer, rabbits, monkeys, zebras, and even elephants lived in fear because they never knew when Sheru might attack.
One evening, all the animals gathered under a giant banyan tree for a meeting.
“We cannot live like this anymore,” said an old elephant sadly.
“Yes,” agreed the monkey. “If Sheru continues hunting like this, none of us will survive.”
After a long discussion, the wise owl suggested a plan.
“What if we send one animal to Sheru every day as his meal? Then he will not hunt the rest of us.”
The animals were frightened, but they knew they had no other choice.
The next morning, they went to Sheru’s cave.
The lion roared loudly, “Why have you all come here together?”
The elephant stepped forward carefully.
“O King Sheru,” he said nervously, “we have a request. Instead of hunting many animals every day, we will send one animal to you daily for your meal.”
Sheru thought for a moment.
“Hmmm… that sounds easier for me,” he growled. “Fine! But if my food is late even once, I will hunt everyone in the jungle.”
The animals agreed and quickly left.
Days passed, and every day one animal went to the lion’s cave. Sheru became lazy because he no longer needed to hunt.
One day, it was a little rabbit’s turn.
The rabbit’s name was Chiku. He was small, clever, and very calm.
When the animals heard that Chiku had been chosen, everyone became sad.
“How will such a tiny rabbit survive?” whispered the deer.
But Chiku smiled confidently.
“Do not worry,” he said. “I have a plan.”
This jungle story for kids teaches that intelligence is often more powerful than strength.
Instead of going directly to the lion’s cave, Chiku slowly walked through the jungle. He stopped near a deep old well and looked inside.
Suddenly, an idea came to his mind.
Meanwhile, Sheru was becoming angrier every minute.
“Where is my food?” he roared. “How dare anyone keep me waiting!”

Finally, Chiku reached the cave very late.
The lion’s eyes burned with anger.
“You tiny rabbit!” Sheru shouted. “Why are you late? I should eat you immediately!”
Chiku pretended to tremble in fear.
“O King Sheru,” he said softly, “please forgive me. I was coming on time, but another lion stopped me on the way.”
Sheru became furious.
“Another lion?” he roared loudly. “How dare another lion enter my jungle!”
Chiku nodded nervously.
“Yes, Your Majesty. He said he is the real king of this jungle.”
Sheru slammed his paw on the ground.
“Take me to him immediately!” he thundered.
Chiku secretly smiled but acted frightened.
“Yes, Your Majesty. Please follow me.”
The little rabbit slowly led Sheru through the jungle until they reached the old well.
“He is inside this place,” Chiku whispered carefully.
Sheru looked confused.
“Inside? Why is he hiding?”
Chiku pointed toward the well.
“He became scared after seeing your strength.”
Sheru quickly jumped near the well and looked inside.

In the water, he saw his own reflection.
The angry lion in the water seemed to stare back at him.
Sheru roared loudly.
The reflection roared back.
Blinded by anger, Sheru believed another lion was truly inside the well.
“I will destroy you!” Sheru shouted.
Without thinking, he jumped into the well.
Splash!
The deep water swallowed the lion instantly. Sheru struggled to escape, but the walls were too slippery.
Soon, the fierce lion disappeared beneath the water.
Chiku the rabbit quietly stepped back and smiled.
“The jungle is safe now,” he said happily.
The little rabbit returned to the animals and told them everything.
At first, nobody believed him.
“You defeated Sheru?” asked the monkey in shock.
“How is that possible?” asked the deer.
Chiku laughed softly.
“Strength is not always the greatest power,” he replied. “A clever mind can solve even the biggest problems.”
The animals hurried to the well and saw that Sheru was truly gone.
Everyone jumped with joy.
The elephants sprayed water happily, monkeys danced on tree branches, birds sang loudly, and rabbits hopped around excitedly.
From that day onward, peace returned to the jungle.
No animal had to live in fear anymore.
Chiku became the hero of the forest. Even the wise owl praised him.
“You may be small,” the owl said, “but your intelligence and courage saved everyone.”
The animals organized a grand celebration for Chiku. They decorated the jungle with colorful flowers and fruits.
During the celebration, the deer asked Chiku, “Weren’t you afraid of Sheru?”
Chiku smiled.
“Of course I was afraid,” he answered honestly. “But courage does not mean never feeling fear. Courage means doing the right thing even when you are scared.”
Everyone clapped loudly.
As the moon shined brightly over the peaceful jungle, all the animals felt thankful for their brave little friend.
And from that day on, parents in the forest often told this jungle story for kids to their children to teach them an important lesson—
